Fritz Lang's "The Big Heat" was a great treat that I was able to view. It is basically the definition of the Film Noir. The film is able to keep you on edge and grasping at every moment throughout. It has a good protagonist that, in ways, you will hate. It has the regular dame, a strong villain, and a great twist. The film is from 1953 but it could be from 2015 or 1923. The story is basic but the way it's told makes it seem timeless.
Glenn Ford's performance as Dave Bannion was not only strong but powerful. He plays not the ordinary demanding detective but the detective that knows what he wants and gets it. Gloria Grahamme was stellar as well, with her turn to regular dame to strong hero. The coffee scene was something as well. Not only was it violent, but it was as if you got the coffee spilled on yourself. The fact that it leaves Grahamme with half a face for the rest of the movie is something different. I'd recommend this to anyone who just wants to watch some sort of thriller.
