A Trip to the Moon - Film Review
OUTSTANDING FILM
★★★★★- 5 Stars
In the early 1900s, films were still a wonder. The thought of people on a screen still boggled the minds of people. Films were short. They ran from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, and they were shown to small audiences. Auguste Lumiere and Louis Lumiere were the first people to show films to a large audience. Those, still, were minute long shorts.
Then came Georges Melies. Melies was an illusionist, fascinated in space and science. This is his masterpiece, A Trip to the Moon. The film was considered ground-breaking for the time as it ran over 2 minutes (14 to be exact). The filmed was screened in 1902 and audiences were ecstatic. They had seen a film unlike any other.
The film uses some of the finest visual effects, even for its time. The iconic "Face of the Moon" is incredible. The scenes are each different and the film actually tells a story. No other film was like this one. It is truly a marvel, even today.
