Vertigo - Film Review

OUTSTANDING FILM

★★★★★- 5 Stars

Before "Vertigo", I'd seen "Rear Window", another Hitchcock film starring James Stewart. I have become a fan of Hitchcock's as all 3 of the films I have seen, at the time of this writing, have made it onto my Outstanding Movie list. Vertigo is a very interesting film as many would probably not understand it. The film is something different for Hitchcock. It has its usual suspense-thriller aspects and it delves into a story that is very unique.
John "Scottie" Ferguson (played by Stewart) is a detective in San Francisco. After a bad experience, he gains acrophobia, the fear of heights. Ferguson is asked by his old friend, Gavin Elster (played by Tom Helmore), to watch his wife (Kim Novak) as he believes she has been possessed by Carlotta Valdes. Scottie gets very interested in Elster's case and falls in love with her. Later on, Scottie finds Mrs. Elster at the river by the Golden Gate Bridge. Mrs. Elster, unexpectedly, jumps into the river, triggering Ferguson to jump in and save her.
Scottie and Mrs. Madeleine Elster finally meet when she wakes up. Their relationship becomes closer to which it turns to a romantic relationship. At one point, during a church scene, Mrs. Elster jumps from the top of the church. She appears to be dead. I don't want to give the rest away because the rest should be seen for yourself.
This is a great film. It has gone its way to become my favorite film of all time. James Stewart's acting is phenomenal and Kim Novak is great too. This is by far a must watch movie and any Hitchcock fan or Thriller fan would appreciate it.
